Centre for Newcomers

The Centre for Newcomers was designed to provide an environment where women felt safe and comfortable, and where they could have a voice and employment opportunities. The Centre exemplifies Canada’s world class education system, unparalleled universal healthcare, and a stable political support system and government.

Project Details

The Centre for Newcomers will help new immigrants adapt to their new home and assist in building their new life here in Calgary.

The Centre will also be a resource for these citizens as the stages of adaptation are not always linear, meaning you don’t always finish one stage and move to the next. Instead, the stages of adaptation can be more circular where you might progress in some areas while still experiencing challenges and barriers  in others. This is especially true as one starts to age and the next generation, the children, move on to live as independent Canadians.

The Newcomers Centre follows a tenant fit up and test fit with over 50,447 ft² of space.

This development will amplify the goals and objectives of Centre to serve as an advocate and support system for these Calgarians as the stages of adaptation are not always linear. Biophilic design, efficiency, security, accessibility, and technology were the top design proprieties. The Centre for Newcomers' mandate to “Make Life Easier” was a key element of METAFOR's vision for this project as a universally designed community hub that benefits and unifies all Calgarians.
